74% of Consumers Believe their Income Affects their Credit Score

In May of 2007 CFA and Washington Mutual conducted a study on consumer awareness of the credit scoring system. The study showed how little consumers really know about their own credit.

Here are some of the interesting results from this study:

Understood that their credit score would increase when they paid off large balances65 %
Understood that married couples don’t have combined scored57%
Understood that maxing out revolving accountwould hurt their scores56%
Knew that there are more than one score45%
Were able to name the three major CRAs23%
Believed their income affected their score74%

Obviously consumers aren’t too aware of how their credit really works. This is even one more reason your services are so vital to helping them have healthy credit.
